1 Chronicles 28:9: “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a loyal heart and with a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts and understands all the intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will be found by you; but if you forsake Him, He will cast you off forever.” Down throughout the years there have been a number of tunes on the radio that have had as their theme bad fathers. One that may quickly come to mind is the song by Harry Chapin entitled Cats in the Cradle, which as many of you know speaks about a boy who is saddled with an absentee dad and who therefore grows up to become an absentee son. Now a lot of Christian fathers today will listen to a song like that and think to themselves; I’m certainly not going to be that way. I am not going to be an absentee dad. I am going to spend time with my kids, and be a good dad. Yet while it’s true that spending time with your kids...

A great great dad – that’s what many children today believe they have. Yet truly great dads are those who communicate to their kids the critical truths that King David communicated to his beloved son Solomon.
